The School of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg (HEIA-FR), a member institution of the Uni- versity of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland (HES-SO), offers bilingual study programs at the BA and MA levels. The HEIA-FR invites applications to fill the position of:
Academic Associate UAS - Research Assistant / Engineer
Mission and Scope of Activities
- Solving complex problems and achieving reliable and fast communication between vehicles in the context of emergency and mission-critical Mobile Area Networks, including public safety and tactical applications
- Working in a cross-disciplinary environment with engineers and researchers
- Actively supporting software development on our Linux clusters; participating in the design, implementation and testing of algorithms and prototypes; helping in quantifying the performance of novel ideas in realistic settings using simulations, real-time emulations or experimental measurements
Your profile
- Bachelor, Master or PhD in IT, computer science, data science, telecom, etc. with some background or interest in the other fields
- Proficiency with modern development tools and languages such as Python, Matlab, C/C++, and Java. Knowledge of Bash, Git, DevOps, MLOps, OpenAi, PyTorch would be a plus. Some familiarity with virtual and emulated environments would also be a plus as we use VMware and LXC (the open-source EMANE platform to emulate MANETs using OLSRd2)
- Ability to translate ideas into specifications, running codes, visible “easy to grasp” results and appropriate open-source documentation
- Ability to work in an organized and structured way while being self-motivated and result-oriented; being able to work autonomously after asking for help or clarifications
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to work effectively in an open, collaborative, solution-oriented and agile environment
