BioMarine Conference Cascais 2019
Dr Koopmans, Director of Plastic Innovation Competence Center (PICC) took part in BioMarine Convention in Portugal in November 2019. Great opportunity to exchange on the marine biomass potential for materials, participate in several workshops, panels and debates on the packaging or microplastics.

Dr Koopmans participated in the panel discussion Will BioPlastics turn blue?
The rising tide of bioplastics as a whole underscores unique ways to sequester carbon, the transition from petroleum-based plastics, and create new products from natural ingredients and/or waste. In all likelihood, responsible application of bioplastics in packaging and elsewhere will continue to lower cost and increase the efficiency of production, catalyzing the transition to fossil-free packaging. The seaweed’s fibres could be used to create a new generation of biodegradable plastic.
