The 6th International Conference Central Europe towards Sustainable Building (CESB22) was held in the historical capital of the Czech Republic in July 2022.

The team of Smart Living Lab composed of Sergi Aguacil from Building2050 Group at EPFL, Yvan Morier, Philippe Couty and Jean-Philippe Bacher from the ENERGY Institute presented the research paper "Building-integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) Combined with Hydrogen-based Electricity Storage System at Building-scale Towards Carbon Neutrality" which was honoured with an "Outstanding Contribution Award". This research paper was written in connection with Yvan Morier's Bachelor's project at the Institut ENERGY co-supervised by Philippe Couty and Sergi Aguacil. It serves as a basis to apply the hydrogen-based electricity storage technology coupled with building thermal performance to the BIPV installation designed for the future building of the Smart Living Lab.

A second research paper "Energy Performance Estimation For Large Building Portfolios With Machine Learning-Based Techniques" written by Frédéric Montet, Jean Hennebert and Jonathan Rial from the iCoSyS Institute, Alessandro Pongelli and Thomas Jusselme from the ENERGY Institute, Stefanie Schwab from the TRANSFORM Institute was widely discussed during the second day of the conference.

The conference was jointly organized by Czech Technical University in Prague – Faculty of Civil Engineering, Klokner Institute, University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings (UCEEB) and Czech Sustainable Building Society (CSBS) – iiSBE Czech. The conference was held under the auspices of international conveners CIB, iiSBE, UNEP-SBCI, FIDIC and GABC, and belongs to the Sustainable Built Environment regional conference series leading towards the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference on September 26–29, 2023 in Montreal, Canada.

The CESB22 presented current activities in sustainable building with a special focus on the Central European area and brought ideas and international expertise to the region and deliver expertise from the region to enhance further development of built environment in the region as well as on a worldwide scale. The aim was to bring together engineers, researchers, academics, producers, investors and developers to exchange and discuss their innovative approaches and ideas focused on sustainable buildings and their contribution to the development of the sustainable built environment in line with UN sustainable development goals.
